Mary Beard on Her AMAZING New Book

Mary Beard on Her AMAZING New Book

Finding Mary Beard, and reading her book (Women & Power) and then devouring every interview I could find (including this podcast) was a tremendous way to close out 2017 -- a year I was fortunate enough to spend with some incredible women. I will forever associate it with hearing Maya Angelou's voice -- in its singular, beautiful, sonorous majesty -- talking to me through my headphones late at night walking through snow; of devouring Yaa Gyasi's amazing book, Homegoing, on a plane to meet my Mom in Greece; of re-discovering my admiration for the way Joan Didion deploys a closing paragraph; of getting to know the power of Chimamanda; of falling deeper and deeper into the magic of Mary Oliver (especially her trees and ponds and owls); of finding Rebecca Solnit at a time when I wanted to hear exactly what she was writing without knowing it would be twice as thunderous as I imagined; and, of course, lying in bed in the early days of spring reading about Quidditch and cozying myself even more into the gorgeous world of J.K. Rowling's mind.

Onward to 2018, excitedly excitedly.
